Recipe: Homemade Tomato Sauce with Basil and Oregano

Ingredients:

  • 1 jar (1 litre) of Connie’s Kitchen Tomato Sauce Puree
  • 3/4 jar of water
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil (or fresh basil leaves, chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Cooked meats or fresh vegetables (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, pour the entire contents of the jar of Connie’s Kitchen Tomato Sauce Puree.
  2. Fill the empty jar with water (about 3/4 full) and add it to the saucepan with the tomato puree.
  3. Add the dried basil, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
  4. If desired, you can also add cooked meats or fresh vegetables of your choice to the sauce for added flavour and texture.
  5. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasonings according to your preference. Add more salt, pepper, or herbs if desired.
  7. Once the sauce has simmered and developed its flavours, it is ready to be used in your favourite dishes.
  8. Serve the homemade tomato sauce over pasta, use it as a base for pizza, or incorporate it into any recipe that calls for a rich and flavourful tomato sauce.

Note: You can store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze it for future use.
